Overview
In celebration of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Petit Palais will host "The Body in Motion" exhibition starting May 15, 2024. This exhibition, featuring 50 works from the museum’s collection spanning from antiquity to the early 20th century, highlights the intersection of art and sport.
The exhibition includes paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, drawings, and prints, organized into eight sections, each emphasizing the human body, anatomy, and sports. Key sections explore themes such as the origins of the Olympic Games, the heroic body, the human figure in art, dance, the vitality captured in sculpture, women's emancipation through sport, children's games, and the rise of modern sports.
Additionally, the exhibit includes 12 videos titled "Athletes' Voices," where athletes supported discuss artworks that resonate with their sports and personal lives. This exhibition creates a poignant connection between art and sport, celebrating athletes as "arthletes."
